MAAM Volunteers receive free or reduced registration for assisting with MAAM events.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the MAAM 2020 Virtual Conference and Annual Meeting!

MAAM is working on a number of volunteer opportunities for individuals to assist with the conference in exchange for conference registration.

Students, emerging professionals, or professionals who work at small museums, furloughed museum professionals, laid off museum professionals, and those cannot afford to attend the conference because of a limited budget may apply to be volunteers.

Volunteers are selected on a first-come, first-serve basis to fill specific volunteer positions. We try to ensure that as many of the graduate programs in the region as possible are represented among our conference volunteers.

As we move our 2020 Annual Meeting online, a number of volunteer opportunities will become available. Check back often for updates on when the 2020 Volunteer Application will be open.

Applicants will be evaluated and selected by the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums. 

Volunteer positions for web-based or online MAAM events include:

  • Co-hosting Zoom meetings
  • Approving attendees from Zoom Waiting Rooms
  • Social Media Journalists
  • Assisting with professional affinity group discussion moderation
  • Serving as a tech assistant for General Sessions
  • Assisting with other duties as assigned

Volunteer positions for on-site MAAM events include:

  • Assisting with check-in and registration at the conference
  • Assisting with conference events (e.g. Opening Reception, EMP event)
  • Distributing and collecting session evaluations
  • Photographing various events at the conference (prior experience preferred–Volunteer must use their own camera).
  • Serving as a tour group leader
  • Assisting with general session needs
