MAAM Volunteers receive free access to the Virtual part of MAAM 2021 and deeply discounted registration for the in-person part of the Annual Meeting.

Who can Volunteer?

Students, emerging professionals, or professionals who work at small museums, furloughed museum professionals, laid off museum professionals, and those cannot afford to attend the conference because of a limited budget may apply to be volunteers.

Volunteers are selected on a first-come, first-serve basis to fill specific volunteer positions. We try to ensure that as many of the graduate programs in the region as possible are represented among our conference volunteers.

Applicants will be evaluated and selected by the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums. 

Volunteer positions for virtual events include:

  • Co-hosting sessions (Multiple positions available)
    • Serve as co-host. Helpful should a technical issue arise!
  • Editing audio transcripts (Multiple positions available)
    • Help us by editing audio transcripts of recorded transcripts for clarity and accessibility purposes
  • Social Media Journalists (Up to 5 slots available)
    • Share, tweet, and post about #MAAM2021. Share updates, information, inspiring words, and more!
  • Newsletter Journalist (2 slots available)
    • Write up to 2 articles on MAAM sessions and affinity group meetings

What benefits do I receive as a volunteer?

Volunteers for MAAM’s 2021 virtual portion of the conference will receive free access to the virtual sessions.

In-person volunteers can attend MAAM for $25 per day to cover food and beverage. Volunteers are scheduled in 1-2 hour shifts or in alignment with MAAM special events.

How do I apply?

When applying, be sure to have your availability ready for the dates of October 4-7, 2021. View the preliminary program for more information on the schedule: https://tinyurl.com/prelimMAAM2021

Submit this form no later than September 24, 2021. A MAAM representative will contact you in mid-September about the status of your application – in the meantime, please feel free to contact info@midatlanticmuseums.org with any questions.

Applying for volunteer positions does not guarantee your access to the Annual Meeting.

Volunteer positions for in-person events include:

  • White Gloves Gang Volunteer (Multiple positions available)
    • Join the MAAM Registrar’s Committee on Wednesday, October 13 at various sites around Wilmington, DE and assist with collections projects.
  • Social Media Journalists and Newsletter Journalists (see above)
  • Photographer (Multiple positions available)
    • Have a photography business on the side? Are you a photography student looking to enhance your portfolio? Consider applying as a conference photographer! We may ask for samples of previous work.
  • Registration Desk Assistant (Multiple positions available)
    • Check-in conference attendees, assemble conference materials and badges, answer general questions regarding conference.
  • Session Steward (Multiple positions available)
    • Sanitize room between breakouts, greet attendees as they enter breakout spaces, hand out evaluations as needed, collect evaluations, contact MAAM staff if presenters are having trouble with AV
  • Reception Assistant (Multiple positions available)
    • Assist with event registration (check-in, take payment for on site registration).
  • Tour Group Leader (Multiple positions available)
    • Serve as leader on tour group, take attendance and headcount, check in with museum person when group is on site, ensure that group returns to bus location (if applicable).
