FEMA and the Smithsonian Institution co-sponsor the Heritage Emergency National Task Force, a partnership of 62 national service organizations and federal agencies created to protect cultural heritage from the damaging effects of natural disasters and other emergencies. The Task Force provides resources to help the public salvage cherished photographs, letters, and other irreplaceable objects:

Please help disseminate this important information before disaster survivors throw their precious, irreplaceable objects away.
Following an event, the Task Force (or HENTF) also helps coordinate response and recovery efforts for arts and culture organizations. Please reach out to your members and constituents to find out whether they are safe and whether their facility and/or collections have suffered damage. They can report back to you (and then please report back to me!) or they can email hentf@si.edu with any reports of damage (and we will report that back to you).
The Heritage Response Team of the Alliance for Response New York City (AFR NYC) is poised to assist cultural institutions and arts organizations in NYC that have been affected by flooding and/or other impacts. Please contact AFR NYC at allianceforresponsenyc@gmail.com.

NEW YORK CITY
Alliance for Response NYC was established in 2004 as a local volunteer organization focused on connecting emergency responders with representatives of the cultural heritage community. Our goal is to strengthen mitigation and response capabilities of the NYC cultural heritage and arts communities through training opportunities, fostering of local planning efforts, and improved dialogue and partnerships. AFR NYC comprises a cross-section of public and private individuals, businesses, agencies, and institutions interested in the preservation of New York City’s cultural holdings.

New Jersey Cultural Alliance for Response (NJCAR) is a network of organization associations, agencies, and persons dedicated to safeguarding the cultural heritage of New Jersey. Through communication and training, the Alliance empowers New Jersey’s cultural community to preserve assets and sustain operations before, during, and after disasters.
PA CULTURAL RESILIENCE NETWORK
Network-building and preparedness for Pennsylvania
The Pennsylvania Cultural Resilience Network (PaCRN) is a series of initiatives to strengthen emergency preparedness at institutions throughout Pennsylvania through training and network-building. The program was launched with funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and continues with support from the William Penn Foundation and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
Pennsylvania Cultural Response Team
PaCRN recruited approximately 50 emergency management and cultural professionals from across Pennsylvania to volunteer for the Pennsylvania Cultural Response Team (PaCRT). They received intensive training on emergency response and recovery, health and safety protocols, and best practices for response to an emergency at a cultural institution. The team is deployed as needed to regional institutions experiencing emergencies. The team can be reached at 215.545.0613 and paculturalresponseteam@gmail.com. Alliance for Response networks
The Alliance for Response (AFR) program connects cultural heritage and emergency response communities. A program of the American Institute for the Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC), AFR creates networks so institutions are ready when disaster strikes.
The PaCRN project established AFR networks in Northeastern Pennsylvania, suburban Philadelphia, Lancaster County, and Berks/Lehigh Counties, and supported existing networks in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Northwestern Pennsylvania, and Central Pennsylvania. CCAHA continues to serve as head of AFR Philadelphia.
