How do we react and respond? How do museums stay relevant to today’s visitors in the context of our changing and evolving world? This year’s theme of “React & Respond: The Next Steps” is reflected in conference sessions that focus on immediate reactions to events occurring throughout our communities and nation that require prompt, measured, an considered responses.

This year’s conference will feature:

  • Keynote Conversation with Gonzalo Casals, Director of the Leslie-
    Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art
    , and Annie Polland,
    Executive Director at the American Jewish Historical Society. Moderated by Keonna Hendrick, cultural strategist and educator.
  • 26 sessions and 5+ poster presentations on a variety of topics including: inclusivity, best practices and lessons learned, access, activism and social justice, community engagement, program development and facilitation, equity, diversity, advocacy, and more! Download a PDF of the conference agenda and session descriptions.
  • Opportunities to network and connect with friends and colleagues at peer group meet-ups, poster sessions, opening and closing receptions, and more!

Conference Scholarships
As an organization dedicated to professional development, we offer financial support to students and museum professionals to attend the NYCMER Conference. This opportunity is open to NYCMER members and current Teachers College students. To apply for a Conference Scholarship, please fill out this brief Scholarship Application  by Sunday, April 8, 2018.
