The Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums (MAAM) is pleased to share our newly adopted Strategic Plan—a roadmap that will guide our work over the coming years as we continue to serve, connect, and advocate for museums across the region.
This plan reflects months of thoughtful discussion, reflection, and collaboration among MAAM’s Board of Directors, staff, members, and partners. It was shaped by the realities museum professionals are navigating today, as well as by our shared optimism about the future of the field.
Why a Strategic Plan Now?
Museums in the Mid-Atlantic region are operating in a time of significant change. Shifts in funding, workforce capacity, audience expectations, and the broader social and economic landscape are prompting institutions to rethink how they operate and whom they serve.
MAAM’s Strategic Plan is designed to help us respond to these challenges with clarity and purpose—ensuring that our programs, partnerships, and resources remain relevant, sustainable, and impactful.
From Plan to Action
A strategic plan is only meaningful if it is actively used. Over the coming months, MAAM will begin translating this plan into concrete actions—informing conference programming, professional development offerings, partnerships, and internal decision-making.
We also see this plan as a living document. As conditions change and new opportunities emerge, we will revisit and refine our approach to ensure we remain responsive to the field.
